Curriculum Description
“Teaching the things you didn't know, that you did not know”
-Aidan Petrie, Managing Partner at NEMIC
The curriculum was developed based on research with CEO’s of successful (and failed!) startups, investors, contract developers + manufacturers in the space, directors of innovation, and many more. The goal being to provide a nuanced understanding—from a holistic overview perspective—of this highly regulated industry.
These fully asynchronous courses are thoughtfully curated in a style that is succinct, congruent, and digestible by prioritizing content that follows a typical innovation-to-commercialization process.

Origin Story
About the History
First researched at the New England Medical Innovation Center (NEMIC), the NEMIC Virtual Classroom is the result of years of planning, design, and development and is backed by the decades of experience that our subject matter experts bring to the table.
Before Virtual Classroom, NEMIC created the innovative MedTech Leadership Program (MTLP), a full-fledged in-person program spanning the breadth of topics from idea conception to investable product and company. The foundational modules of MTLP—and later Virtual Classroom—are the result of in-depth discussion and feedback from key opinion leaders and entrepreneurs in and around New England. These modules include Foundation Courses, Product Development, Go-to-Market Strategy, Building a Company, Funding a Company, and Pitching a Company.
One of the challenges to being an early-stage entrepreneur in this space is not just the knowledge gaps, but not even knowing what you don’t know - or the unknown-unknowns.
Here at NEMIC, we’ve developed a spectrum of content that represents everything an early-stage entrepreneur should at least have a foundational understanding of prior to undertaking a medical device or digital health venture.
Whereas the MTLP was initially conceived as an in-person program, NEMIC now offers the Virtual Classroom as an online alternative. In today’s remote era, we believe the NEMIC Virtual Classroom is needed now more than ever before. Importantly, great ideas are not limited by state or national borders. With Virtual Classroom, NEMIC is able to offer industry-leading education and mentorship to entrepreneurs all over the world.

Every learner’s needs are different. That’s why we offer a variety of options. If you are looking for only a handful of courses to take, perhaps Individual Courses are the right option for you. -
Because all of our program offerings are asynchronous and fully online, they can be completed at your own pace, however slowly or quickly you’d like. However, our recommended pace is 6 months for the Full Signature Program, and 3 months for the Industry Professional Track (this comes out to approximately 1 course a week). Some speedy learners have taken the Full Signature Program in under 2 weeks.

We understand that a deep fund of knowledge in the Med Tech industry takes time to build. NEMIC’s Virtual Classroom is not meant to be the answer to each and every question you may have, but rather a launching point for you and your venture. If you’d like to work with NEMIC and our advisors outside of Virtual Classroom, please contact us for an initial consultation.
